For sale is a delicately drawn and subtly coloured etching by Scottish artist and illustrator Katharine Cameron RWS ARE RE, recognised for her skilful and talented flower painting often accompanied with bees or butterflies.
Titled: Bees and apple blossom.
*Kate (Katharine) was born in Hillhead, Glasgow and the sister of artist D.Y. Cameron, she studied at the Glasgow School of Art (GSA) from 1890-93 and later in Paris. A founding member of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) within the Arts & Crafts Movement.
Her more delicate floral artworks are noted predominantly from the first decade of the 20th Century. The early pieces from the 1890s and early 1900s are bolder in colour and tended to depict large bouquets of flowers in bowls, where later examples are usually single stems set in the open. This is a coloured etching taken from / after the original watercolour from the same period.
**Katharine Cameron was an artist at the centre of the Scottish Arts & Crafts Movement and one of 'the immortals group / Glasgow Girls' and 'Glasgow Boys' including renowned Arts & Crafts Movement artists: Margaret and Frances Macdonald, Janet Aitken, Agnes Raeburn, Jessie Keppie, John Keppie, Herbert McNair and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. They are depicted together in the series of charming photographs from 1893/94 from an Ayrshire artistic/social retreat.
A beautiful delicate artwork in the original period frame, mount and label to the reverse (noted below). The picture is ready to continue to provide a beautiful decorative image from the Scottish Arts & Crafts Movement after circa 115 years.
