For sale is a beautiful little Scottish vernacular treacle / brown glaze, dipped, penny bank (money box) or 'penure-pig', 'pinner' or 'Pirley-pigs' from the late 19th century.

- The charming little Scottish vernacular piece is a slotted earthenware money-box  in the shape of a small cottage for small savings, used especially by children.
- The cottage gas two small gable end chimneys and two windows with a central door, stone or slate markings to the walls and roof.
- The penny bank is likely to be Scottish in origin from Belfield of Prestonpans or Rosslyn's pottery in Kirkcaldy who produced these fascinating little penny banks and were, in the main, covered in a rich brown 'Rockingham' type glaze popular in export markets like North America, which highlights the embossed decoration well.

A lovely antique decorative item
