Second half of the 19th Century Scottish vernacular use earthenware glazed pottery crock / milk storage vessel circa 1860-1900. Thought to be of a type attributed to Wetheriggs pottery, near Penrith, Cumbria from c.1860 onwards.

- Earthenware milk vessel with cream-coloured glazed interior and two handles to the exterior with very simple line marks.  Before pasteurisation became standard, milk would have been drawn and strained before storage and use.
- Dark brown glazed upper surfaces and unglazed earthenware base to sit on or against cold damp earth or stone for keeping the contents cool.  The neck of the storage vessel has a pronounced lip over which to stretch and secure a covering. Unmarked.
- In good solid antique condition given age at circa 150 years of age, nibbles to the earthenware foot as shown and one chip to the outer rim with a small corresponding internal crack close to the lip shown in the images.

A beautiful piece of Scottish vernacular earthenware pottery.
