For sale is a pleasingly tactile Swedish folk art knife box, handmade and handpainted in the 19th Century.
- The wooden box has been carved in only three pieces; the body, the dowel/hinge for the sliding lid and the lid.
- Painted with a lovely faded burgundy and then decorated with black and yellow stylised patterns Rosmålning/Kurbits' paint decoration.
- The sliding box looks to have been designed for a straight folding knife either for shaving or a penknife size blade.
- The functional box is a very pleasing and simple piece of treen with scandinavian folk art decoration.
- The sliding lid has an indistinct signature from the maker or owner possibly Jonsson.
- Wear to paint and from use appropriate to its age.
