For sale from W&W Antiques a beautiful pair of Early 19th Century vernacular Suffolk ball back side chairs.

- The ball back chair is a distinctive regional / vernacular design originating from within East Anglia from the late 18th Century.
- This design of provincial chairs was heavily influenced by the Georgian classical design and regency forms. Influential fine furniture makers / designers such as Chippendale, Hepplewhite and Sheraton were therefore a strong design influence on the East Anglian vernacular design as with many vernacular regions such as Scottish chairs.
- Out of these esteemed influences and fashions the 'ball back' chair design became known as The 'Suffolk Chair' as a country provincial classic.  The chairs maintained a modest and robust, but delicate, distinctive and elegant style.  These chairs were designed for daily utility in rural use in working class cottages, farm kitchens and Georgian towns.
