For sale is a beautiful and great quality Scottish Arts & Crafts Movement lidded inkwell.
- The Inkwell is repousse decorated around the outside and the lid with Celtic knotwork and interlace/inter-twinned designs in a broad motif.
- Celtic knotwork decoration was prominent at the end of 19th Century (c.1890) and early 20th Century from a Scottish school of Arts & Crafts designers and art-metalworkers with strong connections with the Glasgow School of Art and also from the island of Iona.
- Alexander and Euphemia Ritchie producing Iona Celtic Art were inspired by the decorative stone art of the Picts displayed on crosses and grave-slabs and the illuminated manuscripts of the early monks.
- The inkwell has the original white enamel/ceramic liner in a small bowl which is removable and is recessed inside the hinged lid.
A Scottish Arts & Crafts Movement inkwell of great decorative charm.
