Scottish lowland joined Glasgow pattern armchair c.1880.

- Stained birch to simulate more expensive mahogany, in a dark reddish stain throughout with a softwood seat.
- This chair has the distinct component features of a Glasgow pattern, lowland joined chair from the second half of the 19th Century.
- The chair has a broad curved top rail between the two extended back uprights with a straight centrally placed cross splat with upward sweeping shaping.
- The rear legs and uprights are curved ensuring the back reclines for comfort.
- The very elegant 'Crane-necked' or 'Grecian' arms are supported on turned baluster sections leading to the front tapered legs.
- A similar chair is shown in Cotton (2008) Scottish Vernacular Furniture.
- This chair is in good solid antique condition and has age related wear throughout.

Ready for continued utility and in an elegant Scottish design for such functional vernacular furniture.
