For sale is a beautiful Swedish folk art runner from the Skåne Region of Sweden well known for its weaving tradition. This bench runner is bursting with repeat patterns and colour in a weaving tradition known in the South of Sweden as “krabbasnår”.

- The bench runner can be used as a textile floor covering, table runner or wall hanging and is a great length and width as shown. These were used flexibly for decoration in predominantly rural homes.
- It has a lovely colour combination/pattern and woven in sections in a traditional Skånian pattern that is also used for agedyna or carriage cushions and other textile such as bed covers.
- There are repeats stylised heart patterns across the bands alongside stylised hour glasses.
- Woven wool with fringing to each end of the runner as shown in the photographs.

The pattern used for this runner is referred to sometimes as brocaded tabby type “krabbasnår”. These patterns being one of a number of decorative patterns/motifs (like others such as Röllakan available from W&W Antiques) that were woven by farmer’s wives/daughters in the very South of Sweden in 18th and 19th centuries. They were often woven by farmer's wives and daughters as part of dowry gifts or to provide rich decoration for the wooden built rural homes. Decoration included a range of borders but symmetrical and often included stars, squares, stylised hearts and hour glasses.

The antique runner has a lovely range of colours and is a good size to be used flexibly.
