For sale is a beautiful little Scottish vernacular slipware glaze, penny bank (money box) or 'penure-pig', 'pinner' or 'Pirley-pigs' from the late 19th century. 

- Penny bank named for Lexie Maxwell with a knopp to the top and impressed decoration, raised on a footed pedestal.
- The charming little Scottish vernacular piece is a slotted earthenware money-box for small savings, used esp. by children.  There is some decoration to the upper in raised ring marks around the point to the top.  It has a wide slot for coin deposits. 
- Pottery in an attractive deep glaze in a green, blue, brown and cream colourway
- Likely to be Scottish in origin Rosslyn's pottery in Kirkcaldy.

A highly charming, collectable and beautiful little item of vernacular Scottish interest.
