This beautiful Caithness armchair from the late 19th Century - first quarter of the 20th Century is well made by a furniture maker/wright or estate in the regional manner to the North of Scotland.

- This decorative and comfortable joined chair has many of the characteristic and idiosyncratic design features associated with this Northern tradition of crofter and wright chair making.
- These include the recessed plank seat with drying spindle rails in front and behind the main seat section for socks or garments in front of the fire along with the top rail.  The attractive chair also has an extended seat rail well beyond the front legs to accommodate the front rail.  The top seat back rail extends over the uprights.  The side seat rails which extend at the front are secured to the uprights with exposed rectangular tenons as shown in the image from the rear of the chair
- The eight back spindles are reminiscent of a brander back design and along with the leg stretchers are all well turned 
- The chair is in good solid antique condition with only age related wear and remains of great utility.
