For sale is a beautiful Scottish Northern Isles vernacular panelled armchair in the distinctive shape and design of Shetland.  The characteristics of this lovely armchair with an enclosed design in Oak frame and softwood panelling is from the first half of 19th Century.  It is both beautiful and basic in its simple, effective design and construction.

- This armchair has a distinctive and aesthetically pleasing Shetland design with two upper vertical fielded panels fitted over a lower horizontal one which lines up with the slightly curved arms.  It also has a wonderful warm colour and wear to the seat, arms and back from use.

- The arms rest on chamfered uprights which are one piece forming the front legs. Framed panels as draught excluders are fitted beneath both the arms and behind the knees / between the front legs from the stretcher. The legs all have a low stretcher connecting them.
- This rare panelled example also has a an extended top rail to the tall panelled back.
- The chair is solid and in good antique condition, it is also a decent size to accommodate the shoulders as many are small for a modern height/frame.  It has been repaired, patched and nailed together in places and retains considerable charm and conservation throughout from wear, marks and evidence of use for an antique everyday chair such as this.
